Mobil

Alhamdulillah. Lega banget. Mudah2an mobilnya berkah. Membawa manfaat untuk banyak orang.

Om Jambul

It is @omjambul's last week in his current office. Jadi senyum2 sendiri. Aamiin...

Yesterday we decided to take Bagas to a specialist on medical rehabilitation for children called dr. Luh. Alhamdulillah when I called Hermina they said we can come at once. We have been longing to meet her but the schedule always didn't match given that we work during weekdays or there are urgent family matters on weekend. It didn't take long for us to finally met her yesterday. Her practice room was not a formal one where the doctor usually sits behind a table. I dont remember seeing any tables but instead there are lots of toys and the doctor cozyly sits on a matrass for kids. It turned out it is her way of observing how the children behave when they enter the room. For Bagas, at first, he was scared and cried, reaching out for me and @omjambul. But then he managed to play the donut and the drum. And then cried again. The doctor said, fortunately, Bagas is not suffering from autism but what is called 'Fraksis'. Bagas has a lack of sensory integration skill due to, among others, over protection from external environment and at the same time, over exposure to electronic gadgets. So now,  the doctor said, no more TV and Ipad, no more socks (gradually) and provide toys that approriate for his age. This is not only for Bagas to learn but also for us, the parents. Wish us luck!

Talking. Speaking.

Lately, and silently, I have been worrying again about Bagas' speaking ability. For these past few months, I haven't seen any significant progress of his speaking skill. It makes me worried as Bagas' age is 2 years 4 months. I might be exaggerating but this is just how I feel lately. Well, Bagas can say what he wants such as "minum" and "roti" and "nete" but other than that he usually, instead of talking, just motion us to do what he wants. When he wants to eat, he guides our hand to the food. When he wants to watch a DVD movie, he take my hand and motion it to the remote control. From what I observed though, he understand what other people talk about or the substance of a movie. He likes music very much. But there is no indication closer to the progress of being able to talk.

Husband said I shouldn't be over worried. Even Einstein was only able to speak after 4 years old. Fingers crossed. I really hope my little baby can speak faster than Einstein :)

Jakarta here I come

It has been a week for me to start back working in the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta. I am moving on with my career, still in research, in a government research institution. Definitely I need to adapt in many aspects. For example, working as a government official brings you a whole different picture compared to my previous work in an international research organization. Both have bureaucracy, but in a different way. In my new work here, the research activities heavily depend on the national government budget. I instantly understand that this limits the space of the researchers to create a reliable research and hence they tried other opportunities of research outside our organization. One thing that I need to adapt as well is the working hours. It is tough, to be honest. We need to start working at 7:30 AM and go home at 4:00 PM. Fortunately, I must say, my colleagues don't really follow this rules strictly. We used to come at 9 or even 10 and fortunately our supervisor doesn't mind. I feel blessed. This week I tried many different modes of transportation to learn which one I feel most comfortable in using. One day I tried the train, another day I tried the TransJakarta, another day I tried the small minibus from Cibinong to Bogor. Other people might look at it as a useless effort and a waste of time, but to me, I guess it is fun :) I can feel the different ambience in the train, in the official buses, in the TransJakarta, APTB and even in the rusty old bus from Cibinong to Bogor.

The old wisdom proves it again: it is better to try and fail rather than not trying at all.

Rock and roll!!
